LITTLE ROCK — The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), in cooperation with the Alma Sheriff’s Department and Arkansas State Police, has officially named a suspect in the 1995 kidnapping of Morgan Nick. After years of investigation, authorities have focused on Billy Jack Lincks, a convicted criminal who died in prison in 2000.
Lincks became a suspect after a detailed analysis of his red truck, which was in his possession at the time of Morgan’s disappearance. In 2020, the truck was located and handed over to the FBI for forensic examination. Multiple hairs were found inside the vehicle and sent for DNA analysis.
Morgan Nick, just six years old, was kidnapped on the evening of June 9, 1995, while playing with friends and chasing fireflies at a Little League game in Alma, Arkansas. Her disappearance has haunted the state ever since.
Although Lincks had been interviewed after committing a separate crime, he denied any involvement in Morgan’s kidnapping. However, the investigation was recently revisited, and new forensic methods were used to test DNA evidence collected decades ago. In July 2023, Detective Sean Taylor learned about an advanced DNA testing technique, prompting investigators to send the original evidence to a crime lab for reexamination.
On September 27, 2024, the crime lab sent a report to Taylor, revealing that one of the hairs found in Lincks’ truck could have belonged to a family member of Morgan Nick. However, there is no evidence indicating that any of Morgan’s family members were ever in Lincks’ vehicle in 1995.
With this new information, investigators have officially named Lincks as the lead suspect in Morgan Nick’s disappearance, stating that the evidence strongly suggests she had been inside his truck. Despite this development, Morgan is still missing, and the case remains open.
Authorities continue to pursue leads in hopes of finding Morgan. The Oklahoma Medical Examiner’s Office has been involved in assessing a site potentially linked to the case, with investigators examining items and materials unearthed from the location.
Over the years, multiple law enforcement agencies have worked together, chasing countless leads in the effort to bring Morgan home. While the case has spanned nearly three decades, the search for answers—and for Morgan—remains active.
