Starting Friday, July 5, the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) will hold a month-long virtual public involvement meeting to discuss the designation of U.S. Highway 67 as Interstate 57. This designation would extend from Interstate 40 in North Little Rock to Highway 412 in Walnut Ridge.
Interstate 57 currently begins at Sikeston, Missouri, at Interstate 55 and continues to Chicago, Illinois, at Interstate 94.
ARDOT will seek approval from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) to reclassify this portion of U.S. Highway 67 as Interstate 57. Following FHWA approval, the only physical changes to the corridor will be the replacement of signs.
ARDOT anticipates that the new designation will offer more economic opportunities and increase property values along the corridor. No existing addresses will be affected.
The public can view meeting materials and provide comments by accessing the website at this link. (The meeting materials will be available starting July 5.)
The website will feature a video presentation and information about the Interstate 57 corridor, Interstate designation requirements, the potential impact on individuals, and how to submit questions and comments for consideration.
The deadline for viewing the materials and submitting comments is 4:30 p.m. on Monday, August 5.
