$50K bond set for medical employee accused of pocketing narcotics

According detectives with the Independence County Sheriff’s Department a probable cause affidavit was filed July 14, for Nadine J. Hightower, 35, for nine counts of breaking or entering, a class D felony; and nine counts of controlled substances-fraudulent practices-acquired by theft, a class D felony.

On June 7, responded to an unnamed medical facility in reference to a theft of medications by an employee.

According to the affidavit, the medications were removed from the medication dispenser with no medical order or medical need for patient use. Each transaction is recorded in the system of the medication dispenser and each action committed by Hightower is on recording showing the medications being removed and concealed within her hand, shoes, and pockets.

A total of 197 transactions were found to be improperly obtained between Feb. 21 and June 2 of this year, per the medical facility policy. Of these transactions, 51 of them are recorded on surveillance video for the medical facility and were reviewed by the staff of the medical facility as well as the detectives.
